Crescent City is located in the northwestern corner of California, about 80 miles north of Eureka. This little seaside town looks out onto the Pacific Ocean and is backed by the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Being between these two natural wonders opens up unlimited possibilities for your vacation. The ocean waters provide the perfect place to spend a day fishing, and the beaches here wrap around large rock formations which are great fun to explore. The Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City has a museum dedicated to the history of the area, and tours of the lighthouse are offered. In the nearby Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and Smith River National Recreation Area there are lots of hiking trails that vary in difficulty from easy to difficult. The rivers open up the opportunity of whitewater rafting and some excellent fly fishing. The parks also have exhibits and information about the forest and the wildlife within. Back in Crescent City, there are unique stores and excellent seafood restaurants for you to try. This town does not have the hustle and bustle of a big tourist destination, and therein lies its beauty. Here you can enjoy your vacation at your own pace.
