Monterey Bay is the large bay directly south of Santa Cruz. The bay continues all the way to Monterey. The Monterey Bay area is an excellent place to stay because of the constant warm weather and the wonderful activities available. Probably the most popular site to see while vacationing here would be the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This is one of the world’s best aquariums. There are dozens of exhibits and activities, from watching the sharks at feeding time to reading about jellyfish and learning how they move in the water. For those who want to get a close up view of the aquatic life in the area, contact one of the scuba diving centers in the area (certifications are required). If you would rather stay on top of the water, consider renting a kayak for the day and explore the ocean waters. Guided fishing trips are available to help you catch the big one. There are also dozens of golf courses in the area including the Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Links at Spanish Bay. Shopping in Monterey Bay consists mostly of touristy shops. However, if you are willing to go the extra mile you can find some truly unique stores in the area. At the end of the day, it will be nice to be able to relax in your own vacation cottage looking over Monterey Bay. The closest airport to Monterey Bay is the Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY, 5miles). The San Jose International Airport (SJC, 70miles) is another option.
