Twain Harte is located in the southern half of California’s Gold Country, about 75 miles east of Stockton. Twain Harte is a small alpine town set in the middle of beautiful pine trees and large mountains. This is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking to get outdoors and away from the big city. The surrounding national forest is filled with dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails that vary in difficulty from short jaunts to all day treks. Many of these trails are also open for horseback riding. Mountain streams provide wonderful fly-fishing. A short drive puts you in the heart of Yosemite National Park and its spectacular valleys and mountains. Rock climbing is a popular activity in the area, be sure to check in with local outdoor shops to find out where the best spots are. Twain Harte is also a good place to coordinate your white water rafting in the Sierras. There are several caverns nearby that offer tours ranging from a 45-minute walk to long crawls into spectacular underground rooms. In the winter snowmobiling and ice-skating are popular activities in addition to skiing at nearby Dodge Ridge. There are several unique stores and shops in the center of Twain Harte, but most of your shopping can be done in nearby Sonora. The best part about having your own vacation home in Twain Harte is being able to curl up next to a cozy fire after a long day exploring nature. The closest airport to Twain Harte is the Modesto City – County Airport (MOD, 75miles). |
