Carmel-by-the-Sea is located on the southwest side of the Monterey Peninsula along the coast of central California. Staying in Carmel is a unique, world-class experience. The cottages and homes along the city’s tree-lined streets are each unique and demonstrate a harmony of architecture and art. In fact the homes here are known by their names rather than by a street number. A short walk or drive down to Scenic Road and you will be looking over Carmel Beach into Carmel Bay. To the north you will see world-renowned Pebble Beach and beautiful 17-Mile Drive. To the south is Carmel Point. Carmel Beach is perfect for a nice walk or jog along the shore. Surfing is also popular as the Pacific Ocean pounds the sand with waves for all skill levels. Boutiques, galleries and stores line the streets and alleys of downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. Walking tours of Carmel are available with docents ready to share the secrets of this fascinating area and the history behind it. There are also many excellent golf courses and tennis facilities nearby. Monterey hosts the nearest airport, Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY, 8miles).
