Imperial Beach is located about 12 miles south of San Diego near the U.S. border with Mexico. The beaches here along the Pacific Ocean are worth the trip alone. The sand consistency is perfect for building large sandcastles or playing a game of volleyball. The warm climate and waters make for great sunbathing and swimming. The waves coming in from the ocean promise a good time for all levels of surfers. The Imperial Beach Pier is a great spot to go fishing for a day and no license is needed. But, not everything here is about the beach. Nearby the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve and Boulder Field State Park is an excellent place to visit if you are interested in seeing and learning about the various species of birds and plant life in the area. The park also includes bike trails, nature trails, swimming and fishing. The nearby San Diego Zoo is probably the best zoo in the western United States and it is worth a day trip. Tijuana is also a great spot for a day trip. After all the fun on the beach and exploring the area, make sure to take some time for yourself at one of the cafes in town or do a little window shopping. And above all else, relax; after all it is your vacation in Imperial Beach. The San Diego International Airport (SAN, 13miles) is the closest airport to Imperial Beach. |
