La Jolla, also known as La Jolla by the Sea, is located on the northern outskirts of San Diego along California’s coastline. This particular part of coastline is absolutely amazing. The rock formations and cliffs created by the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean are beautiful, and the beaches here are soft and large. Coves created by the water make for perfect swimming areas and the breaking points of the waves here are ideal for surfing. Shops along the beaches offer everything from souvenirs to beach equipment. Further inland is the Museum of Contemporary Art. This museum is a wonderful place to spend an extremely rare rainy day. But, if the sun is out you might want to swing a club around at one of the incredible golf courses in La Jolla. The shopping here is exquisite. You will find everything from high-end boutiques to large fashionable chain stores such as Banana Republic. Of course with these wonderful stores come fabulous cafes and restaurants. Enjoy an evening on the deck of a restaurant eating your favorite meal and sipping a glass of wine while you watch the sun sink into the ocean. Whatever you decide to do during your vacation, you can make it happen in La Jolla. The San Diego International Airport (SAN, 10miles) is the closest airport to La Jolla.
