Mendocino is located along California’s northern coastline, about 10 miles south from Fort Bragg. Mendocino is one of the most popular destinations along this northern coastline. However, even with the hundreds of tourists that come here each summer, the town is able to retain its relaxed feel and port town charm. The northern end of town is made up of quaint cottages that look out over the ocean. The best way to see the unique architecture and really appreciate Mendocino is to stroll through its streets. This just so happens to also be the best way to see the unique stores and art galleries, many of which show locally made wares. The Mendocino Headlands State Park lies between town and the ocean. This park has miles of trails, which give wonderful views of the coastline and hidden rock formations. Another popular park is the Russian Gulch State Park, which contains waterfalls and paved bike paths. Back in town, where the Big River meets the Pacific Ocean, is a good beach for sunbathing and playing in the sand. At the end of the day you can sit in your vacation cottage and watch the sun sink slowly into the Pacific Ocean. Mendocino is the relaxing sanctuary you have been looking for. The two closest airports to Mendocino are the Sonoma County Airport (STS, 95miles) in Santa Rosa and the Arcata Airport (ACV, 105miles) in Arcata. |
