Sutter Creek is in the middle of California’s Gold Country, about 45 miles east of Sacramento. Sutter Creek is an excellent place to spend a vacation, especially if you are looking to get away from a big city. Sutter Creek has a relaxing old town feel to it due to the pace of the locals and the preservation of many historic buildings. Tours of the old mines such as the Kennedy Gold Mine are offered and will educate you about the background of the town and the rich land around it. If that isn’t enough then head down to the Monteverde Store Museum. This museum gives a unique and accurate depiction of the general stores during the gold rush era. If you want to do a little spelunking, check in with the folks down at Black Chasm. This national landmark houses rare and beautiful rock formations inside its cavernous walls. Tours available to the public. The Calaveras Big Tree State Park and its large sequoias are located nearby. These mammoth trees are spectacular works of nature and worth a visit. The shopping scene in Sutter Creek is mostly comprised of locally owned shops and stores with unique twists on the common retail items. There are a few souvenir shops and antique shops in town as well. At the end of the day you can relax in your own vacation home in peaceful Sutter Creek. The closest airports to Sutter Creek are the Stockton Metropolitan Airport (SCK, 50miles) and the Sacramento International Airport (SMF, 50miles). |
